Flying Samaritans, commonly referred to as Flying Sams, is an international organization made up of several different chapters, all sharing the common goal of improving access to healthcare for communities in Baja California, Mexico.
The Flying Samaritans of CSUSM is a student-medical volunteer organization led by physicians, physician assistants, physical therapists, pharmacists, nurses, EMTs, and medical assistants dedicated to providing free medical services to a medically underserved community in La Misión, Baja California, Mexico. Once a month, CSUSM students along with students from Cal Poly Pomona, will travel along with volunteering healthcare providers to conduct medical screenings, provide treatments, and organize preventative care education sessions for visiting patients. Our mission is to create a patient-centered environment with an emphasis on preventive care that creates an atmosphere that will extend above and beyond a standard clinic experience.
In the Spring of 2019, Nicolas Sesno and John Tagulao began volunteering with The Flying Samaritans of San Diego State University. Inspired by the efforts of medical providers and volunteers to provide sustainable medical care, the two sought to establish a Flying Samaritans Chapter at their alma mater, California State University San Marcos. In the Winter of 2020, a partnership was established with California Polytechnic University Pomona to provide free medical services to the community of La Misión, Baja California, Mexico.

As of February 2020, The Flying Samaritans of CSUSM has been officially recognized as a campus organization. Although we are a new organization on campus, we have already made great strides in realizing our mission to provide transformative healthcare services to the people of La Misión. We look forward to meeting new volunteers to help us grow our Flying Samaritans family! We would like to thank Capilla San Miguel Arcángel, Dr. Shantu Patel MD, The Flying Samaritans of Cal Poly Pomona, The Flying Samaritans of SDSU, the entire Flying Samaritans Palomar Chapter, Palomar Medical Center Emergency Department, and California State University, San Marcos for all your support in making this organization possible.
